2023 Slated Candidates
Delegates will vote to fill three open positions on the USBC Board of Directors. Incumbents Glenda Beckett and Adam Mitchell are among the five slated, as well as current director Mike Cannington, who will term out as a Youth Committee member. He is seeking election by the delegates.
The USBC Nominating Committee, which may slate up to two candidates for each opening, set a slate of five candidates.
Glenda Beckett
Palmetto Bay, Florida
Glenda Beckett of Palmetto Bay, Florida, has been on the USBC Board since the 2020-2021 season. She currently serves on the Awards and Recognition, Nominating and Legal and Legislative Committees. Beckett is the Greater Miami USBC Association Manager since 2012 and has served the association in various roles, including first vice president and tournament manager, since 2001. She has been a Florida State USBC board member since 2018, serving as the Legal and Legislative Committee chair and a member of the Charity, Budget/Audit, Nominating and Policies and Procedures committees. The Florida State USBC WBA honored her with the 2017 Pilar Cohalla Award for outstanding service, and she was inducted into the Greater Miami USBC Hall of Fame for meritorious service in 2014. She received the Greater Miami WBA Outstanding Service Award in 2006 and was awarded Most Powerful Female Marketing Executive by the Dan Marino Charity Golf Tournament in 1999. Beckett retired from AT&T/Lucent Technologies in 2001, having worked as executive assistant to the president for the Caribbean and Latin America region.
Why are you qualified to serve on the USBC Board of Directors?: I have served three enlightening years on the Board. These experiences, time spent on state and local USBC Boards and my service as Association Manager and Local Tournament director all contribute to my ability to serve on the USBC Board. With this background, I bring ideas and opinions that will protect and enhance member benefits. I am always ready to examine new ideas and to challenge things that don’t seem to add value to the sport.
Brandon Bowman
Mukilteo, Washington
Brandon Bowman, who has been a USBC member for 31 years, is in his third year as a director on the Washington State and Snohomish County USBC Boards. As Chair of the Youth and Communications Committees for both associations, Bowman has coached youth for four years while managing youth programs, websites and social media platforms. He also serves on the Scholarship and Finance committees. In 2021, Bowman pursued a dream by joining the PBA Regional Tour, and he was the WSUSBC 2003 All-Events and 2021 Mixed All-Events champion. Professionally, Bowman is a Sustainable Business Consultant and Finance Manager focusing on strategy, operational efficiency and financial management of corporations including Amazon, Microsoft and The Boeing Company. He holds an MBA from Seattle University, a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University and a graduate certificate in Sustainable Business from Pinchot University/Presidio Graduate School.
Why are you qualified to serve on the USBC Board of Directors?: A top priority for USBC is building and communicating value for its members. Having over 15 years of business consulting and corporate finance experience, I bring expertise in financial stewardship and operational transparency to provide maximum value for our members. Coupled with a passion for competition, I bring a fresh, positive can-do approach with a goal to improve USBC for my young kids, who are now just as competitive as their dad.
Mike Cannington
Fort Myers, Florida
Mike Cannington of Fort Myers, Florida, is the sales and marketing director for Bowling Management Associates, operators of seven bowling centers in southwest Florida. He has been a member of the International Bowling Campus Youth Committee since 2014. A lifelong bowler, Cannington was captain of the University of South Florida bowling team (1978-1980) while pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications (1980). He has taken on leadership roles with both business and civic organizations throughout his four decades in business. He served as President of the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce in 2004-2005 and currently is on the board of directors, and also has been a board member for the local YMCA, March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy and the Alliance for the Arts. Cannington served eight years as a member of the Southwest Florida USBC association and currently is working on the member events committee for the Bowling Centers Association of Florida (BCAF). Prior to joining Bowling Management in 2009, his career was quite varied – sports broadcaster, anchor, reporter for 12 years, marketing director for a national restaurant chain franchise group for 15 years and two years as marketing director for a Harley-Davidson dealership group.
Why are you qualified to serve on the USBC Board of Directors?: I’ve had the privilege of being on the USBC Board of Directors for the past six years. I believe my diverse background in business, bowling and community involvement over the past four decades allows me to contribute in an open-minded yet vigorous manner to the important matters we deal with on this board. Experience really matters. I’d be honored to serve this great organization for three more years if elected.
Adam Mitchell
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Adam Mitchell of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, began his second term on the board during the 2020-2021 season. He served as vice president for two seasons, also starting during the 2020-2021 season. From 2014-2020, he served as a board member for Nation’s Capital Area USBC, and he is the current Virginia State Youth Director. He started bowling at age 10 and was a local Youth Leader for the Young American Bowling Alliance (YABA). He continues to work with association leaders to manage tournaments and support operations of the association. Off the lanes, he is an entrepreneur leading two businesses as Chief Executive Officer of Global Solutions, a company he started in 2013 to provide Managed Security, Human Capital Management, Fingerprinting and Payroll services to federal contractors. He manages a team of five along with his business partner and together supports more than 100 companies throughout the United States totaling more than 2,000 employees and consultants. He is also Owner of Cozy Turtle RV Rentals, a business that he manages with his family that provides an elevated RV camping experience.
Why are you qualified to serve on the USBC Board of Directors?: I have always had a passion for bowling and enjoyed it as the only sport I got involved in when I was young. I also have a drive to build businesses coming from a family that has owned their own businesses in multiple industries. I also enjoy serving a community where I can use my experience and provide an outside perspective to affect change and move initiatives forward. Having served in the local and state associations and now being on the national board for nearly six years, I fully grasp and understand USBC’s goals, mission and vision for its members and constituents.
Cheryl Younger
Leavenworth, Kansas
Cheryl Younger of Leavenworth, Kansas, has been an avid bowler since high school. She has been an active member of the local Wy-Jon County USBC board since 2010. In 2017, she was elected to the Kansas State USBC Board where she serves as 2nd-Vice President, Tournament Committee co-chair and Finance Committee member. Her professional career spans 20+ years in the travel industry and 24+ years in the financial services industry with American Express. Throughout her career, she developed extensive industry knowledge and a deeper understanding about customer needs and expectations. Utilizing her consulting expertise, she is able to help clients find solutions and successfully execute strategies to achieve goals. Officially in retirement, she is eagerly looking for new opportunities that channel her energy and passion for having fun while serving others, primarily in the sport she loves so much, bowling.
Why are you qualified to serve on the USBC Board of Directors?: I am an instinctive leader who is driven to serve with honesty, integrity and transparency. I enjoy developing long-lasting, collaborative relationships that are built on trust. I have developed effective communication skills and customer service expertise, and my previous work experience supports my ability to be a vital contributor and promoter of USBC’s strategic initiatives. Best of all, I am approachable, easy going and love finding ways to have fun!
